Screener

Screener
Preliminary treatment may include several processes, each designed to remove specific materials. Selection of what processes are included in pretreatment depends on the collection system, and upon the nature or make-up of the wastewater in the community.
The screening process removes the largest pieces of solid matter from the wastewater. Eight bar screens intercept residue bigger than 2.5 cm, such as stones, pieces of wood, cloth, plastic containers, etc. Each of the bar screens is 4.6 meters high.
Application
Water passes through a continuous perforated conveyor zed screen. The screener acts as an inverted conveyor, and the screening medium removes grit and debris from a flow of channel water. Debris can clog the screeners, which slows the rotating drive shaft. After the screening, a channel directs the wastewater towards the grit chambers or, in emergency situations, toward an underground bypass conduit interconnected with the northern interceptor underground diversion conduit which leads to the Plant’s outfall
